A Letter to 13 Year Old Me.

Dear Betsy-May,

It’s now the year 2016, but in your head it’s still feels like it’s about 2010 and despite the fact you still have your ID double checked and you’re regularly told you look ‘about 12’, you’re 19. The last year of being a teenager, you’re next decade approaching fast. It’s been almost 10 years since you screamed round your garden ‘I’ve Reached Double figures’, if you felt old turning 10, Imagine how old you’re feeling now. 2015 has just finished, possibly the biggest year of your life so far. University, moving out, heartbreak, so much happened but you powered on through. You finished college with top grades and you started your studies in Manchester. Everything changed in 2015, you’re whole life was tipped upside down, but all for the better.

Now, a lot has changed since you were 13. Your mum and step dad have separated (she’s now with Andy, who you claim to hate, but SOMETIMES is pretty cool), you have another brother (who is the most adorable thing EVER; also irritating.) He’s now 4 and a half and started school this year, he’s blonde and called Sydney. You’ve only recently stop bickering with Max (you sometimes still do.) You’ve moved house twice, into town. You’ll be happy to hear you’re no longer stuck out in the old village, miles away from all your mates, you’re right in the centre of town, free to go wherever, whenever. You passed your driving test first time, with only 4 minors and now you and George the KA travel the country together. You’ve been through a lot with that car, it may not be the best car, but it’s yours. It’s been your home for festival nights when you just couldn’t hack setting the tent up, it’s been your refuge from college during long lunch breaks, it’s been your baby for the last 2 years. The day you part with George will be an emotional day.

In the next 6 and a half years, you’ll go through a lot. You’ll completely change friendship circles at least 4 times, you’ll have to deal with a girl who made your life absolute hell for a little while. But don’t worry because in the end you meet one of the most inspirational, amazing people you’ve ever met out of it, your best friend Nicola. You’ll experience anxiety and all the pain and stress that comes along with that and you’ll have some moment’s that are so low you never want to feel that way again. But I’m here to tell you, you’ll come out the other side stronger than ever. (HELLO FROM THE OTHERSIDDDDEEEEEE.) – That’s an Adele reference, you’ll understand that one day. Basically what I want you to know is that right now, your life couldn’t get much better. You’ll meet some incredible friends at University, You’ll fall in love, You’ll find your own independence. You have so much to look forward too, so keep strong throughout the hard times.

Have courage and be kind.

Betsy-may – Aged 19♥
